The Ummah English Group have been holding English-language mourning ceremonies to commemorate Imam Hussein (AS) in Tehran.

The Ummah English Group have been holding English-language mourning ceremonies to commemorate Imam Hussein (AS) in Tehran for the second consecutive year.

A group of foreign nationals residing in Tehran along with Iranians who used to live abroad or even pay occasional visits to Iran, gather together to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).

The ceremony provides an opportunity for English-speaking nationals, students and professors of English to mourn and commemorate the third Shia Imam.

The English-speaking group holds Maghreb prayers and recitation of Ziyarat Ashura each night and performs diverse programs like eulogy, Maqtal readings and mourning poetry readings.

At the end of the program each night, the director of South Africa Islamic Center Seyyed Abdullah Hosseini delivers speech in English.

“Every day is Ashura and everywhere is Karbala” is being reflected upon in these gatherings of eastern and western Muslims who say they are ready to answer the call of Imam Hussein, “Is there anyone to help me?”

Those in Tehran who are interested in participating in the gathering can attend it at Eyvan Shams Hall and Cultural Center located at the beginning of Kordestan highway on Fatemi St., Golha Square at prayer room of socio-cultural deputy of Tehran Municipality.

The session will start with Maghreb prayers at 18 and will last until about 20:30 each night till the 11th of Muharram.

The programs are open to the public, preferably those who understand English.
